Fedora Hats are back in Fashion

The fedora hat is extremely famous and popular with men but some time back, it had gone a tad bit out of fashion. This hat ideally has a dent on top and is slightly pinched in front. The brim of the fedora is usually around 2.5 inches but can be wider. Short brimmed fedoras are very much in fashion and look incredibly trendy. Thanks to television shows like Mad Men and a few movies, this hat has become extremely popular.FEDORA HATS

The name ‘fedora’ comes from a play named Fédora by Victorien Sardou in 1882. The play was written for Sarah Bernhardt and was performed in the USA in 1889. Bernhardt, an infamous cross dresser, played the character Princess Fédora who sported a soft brim, centre-dented hat. Soon, this hat was adopted as a fashion trend by women activists and later, in around 1924, men started wearing them with city clothes. This hat is associated with gangsters and the hat was extremely popular from the 1920s to the 1950s. Amongst celebrity figures both fictitious and non-fictitious, Indiana Jones and Michael Jackson, popularised the fedora hat most.

However, many still confuse two styles, the fedora and the trilby. A fedora is characterised by a wide brim bow and band while the trilby is characterised by shorter brim and ribbon. Some American hat makers design the trilbies with a wide ribbon which make them looks like fedoras, hence increasing the confusion. There are other ways to tell the two hats apart like the size of the brim and height of the crown.

Whatever might be the confusion, fedora hats for men is a style statement and can never go out of fashion. Especially with celebrities like Johnny Depp sporting the hat ever so often, the style will never die. In fact, many consider the fedora to be reborn recently.
